The bench on the Downs

This is how the 'bench in the making' turned out. As you see it is an oak leaf. We found it again - they moved it from its place of construction. And we discovered that it has a plaque embedded in the 'stalk'.


It is sad to reflect on how young this person was when he died, but he must have had many good friends who have commemorated his short life with this beautiful bench with its spectacular view.

This bench sits cosily round the fire pit for the cooler evenings up on the rim of the Ngorongoro crater




The perfect place to meet up for a cool drink and a chat - perhaps discussing the wonderful wildlife you saw on safari in the crater.

These two benches are in the grounds of the Plantation Lodge near the rim of the Ngorongoro crater, in the Karatu area Tanzania.
